UUCT’S December Split-the- Plate Partner

The West Alabama Food Bank is a full-service food bank that seeks to provide member agencies and their clients with a wide-range of programs and projects designed to meet the diverse needs of West Alabama. They work to procure food donations to serve a population of over 315,000 residents; over fifteen percent of whom are living in poverty. The counties served are Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa.

The programs of the Food Bank include both direct service to clients and serving as a distribution hub to other agencies that distribute food. Some of their basic programs include:

  • Basic agency warehouse shopping program
  • Pre-order system – agency pickup/self-delivery
  • County quarterly free distribution program
  • USDA commodity program
  • Salvage program
  • Value-added product program
  • Agency specialty item order program
  • Community service worker program
  • Brown Bag program for needy elderly
  • Mobile Food Pantry
  • Freezer Loan Program
  • Secret Meals for Hungry Children
