Black Lives Matter is a movement composed of people working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically and intentionally targeted for demise.  Although it is a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life, currently there is no active Black Lives Matter chapter in Tuscaloosa. However, there are two organized groups of Black Lives Matter activists pursuing their missions in Birmingham, AL.

In late 2015, the Social Justice Team organized the UUCT Black Lives Matter Task Force to assist the UUCT congregation in examining its own white privilege, supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, and exploring how UUCT can become a more proactively anti-racist, anti-oppression congregation.  In January 2016, the Social Justice Team also partnered with the Black Lives Matter Task Force in hosting Elandria Williams from the Highlander Research & Education Center who provided a special Black Lives Matter worship service and workshop.
